By the time this newsletter hits your inbox, I will be landing in the cold again after a 3-week vacation in warm Brazil.

Yeah, back to reality, I know…

Speaking of reality, how about setting one major goal for the new year? Please read below for a hot trend happening right now.

It is no secret that I love making lists. Basically, I make lists for everything: groceries, stocks I want to own, and obviously for my personal and business goals.

Lists give me the power to be focused and in control of my actions.

They help me work towards results and allow me to re-route in case things change. I simply scratch a line that no longer applies and write a new idea at the bottom as my new goal.

So, every January, I create a list of my business goals and today I am going to suggest one idea for you to implement into your business for the year. Regardless of your role in the industry, this suggestion will apply to your business.

For installers, dealers, workrooms, and designers

As we see every day around us, smart homes are an upward trend. Smart locks, adjustable lighting, mobile devices, digital thermostats, voice-activated devices, and the list goes on.

Window coverings are also included in this technology.

Windows are getting taller and wider, and consequently, the best way to operate them is via motors. There is an immense untapped potential for every segment of our industry. Many dealers and decorators are still very scared about offering such products because they don’t have a great installer to assist them in measuring and installation.

Many workrooms also avoid fabricating/specifying products that require motors and automation. Even basic tasks like setting limits seem like a foreign language for many.

Let me just say something: YOU ARE LEAVING A LOT OF MONEY ON THE TABLE by walking away from those projects.

Things like choosing between batteries, plug-in or home runs for power sources can be intimidating. Deciding between handheld remotes or voice activated devices such as Alexa or wall switches may create a roadblock.

Different brands can also play a huge role in selecting the best product for the project.

So, my suggestion is for you to invest in your education this year by joining Facebook groups, attending local training from manufacturers, reading new trends in magazines and even attending expos such as IWCE and CEDIA.

The sooner you start, the sooner you will reduce the barriers between your fear and your confidence. I guarantee that your bank account will be the first one to notice that!
